There is no purpose to this post except to say that I am sitting on the porch in the dark, in a torrential downpour, having a nice summer beverage, remaining dry, and couldn’t be more content.
Last night I ran a 29:45 at the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge, which wasn’t the time I thought I could run before I hurt my knee, but was faster than I’d run while training. I came in 279th for women, which was pretty exciting. My boyfriend is a real runner and came in 13th overall. He’s a had a rough year of injuries and definitely deserves it!
When I came back from my run tonight, I sat on the porch for a few minutes to cool off and calm my breathing. I found myself staring at the bush in front of the porch railing and I wanted to share what I saw. Sharing with others really is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Unfortunately, no one really believes that in kindergarten, and then sometimes we forget as we get older.
The musical Oklahoma! was remarkable not because of the depth of its story, but because of the joy openly displayed and the excitement it garnered from the audience. Musical theatre took off at this point, thanks to the talents and dedication of Messers Rodgers and Hammerstein. Oklahoma! is, perhaps, too cheery and too bright to truly reflect daily life, but Curly McLain’s opening song, “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’,” certainly captured the beauty of today’s sunrise.
