Today Mitch and I took advantage of the freedom of having a car to get out of the city and go hiking. We were so happy to find the beauty that everyone talks about here. It was a really wonderful day and a much harder hike than we’d expected. It took us 3 hours and 57 minutes to get up and then back down the mountain, including the amount of time we stopped to rest. The terrain was rather challenging in some areas and my legs are quite sore at the moment. Ascending was definitely more tiring, but descending was a bit scarier.

As we climbed Mount Datuk we felt like we’d walked into the Age of the Dinosaurs. The leaves were huge!

So were the insects. Yikes!

We took the obligatory selfie on the way up the mountain, but unfortunately I didn’t notice it was blurry until I’d uploaded the photos onto my computer.
Below is a gallery of photos from our hike up and down Mount Datuk. Notice the ladders towards this end – three sets of ladders took us up huge boulders to the summit! The day was beautiful, the loudest sounds we heard were crickets, we were covered in sweat and mosquito bites, and I can’t wait to do it again. Enjoy the photos!
